How to Choose the Right Compressor for an Industrial Chiller? It’s About More Than the Brand
When selecting an industrial chiller, one of the most common questions we receive from customers is:
“Which compressor brand do you use?”

The compressor is one of the core components of a refrigeration system. It provides the power to circulate refrigerant and directly affects the chiller’s cooling capacity, energy consumption, and long-term operating reliability.

Is the compressor the right match for the actual application?
Because in industrial refrigeration, there is no single compressor solution that works best for every situation.

Many customers compare chillers mainly based on cooling capacity and price when making a purchase decision.
For example, two chillers with the same rated cooling capacity, such as 100RT, may have very different prices.
Why?
The difference is not only about the compressor brand.
Factors such as compressor type, efficiency level, heat exchanger design, control system, refrigerant selection, and overall system matching can all affect both the initial cost and long-term operating performance.
A higher-priced chiller is not necessarily just using more expensive components. In many cases, it may be designed for better efficiency, higher reliability, or longer service life.
For industrial users running equipment for many hours every day, the purchase price is only one part of the total cost.
Energy consumption, maintenance requirements, and potential production downtime are often more important over the lifetime of the equipment.
Compressor Selection Depends on Operating Conditions
The key to compressor selection is matching the actual operating conditions.
For example, a chiller used for plastic injection molding usually needs to operate continuously for long periods. Stable cooling is critical because mold temperature fluctuations can directly affect product quality.

Scroll or Screw Compressor: Which One Fits Your Needs?
So, what is the difference between scroll compressors and screw compressors?
This is one of the most common questions from customers.
Scroll compressors are usually used in small and medium-capacity chillers.
They have a compact structure, low vibration, and quiet operation, making them suitable for applications where space, noise, and stable cooling performance are important.
Screw compressors are more commonly used in medium and large industrial chillers.
With higher cooling capacity and strong capability for continuous operation, they are widely used in applications such as plastic processing, food production, chemical manufacturing, industrial process cooling, and large HVAC systems.
However, a screw compressor is not always a better choice than a scroll compressor.
If a small cooling system uses an oversized screw compressor, it may increase investment costs without achieving the best efficiency.
The right compressor is more important than simply choosing a larger compressor.
Brand Matters, But Matching Matters More
Does the compressor brand matter?
